MaryAnn Mandel | Women in Construction Week

Meet MaryAnn Mandel, assistant project manager, Associate of Construction Management – Oakland Community College.

What has your experience been like as a woman in construction?

Women in construction tend to be underrepresented, especially when working in the field. It takes patience and effort to garner the respect of fellow trade contractors.

What has been the most rewarding part of being a woman in this field?

For me it’s not just building the building; it’s building the relationships. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the finished product, but the true value is in the relationships you develop throughout the lifespan of the project. It’s about the people you meet coming together for one purpose!

Since I joined Rockford last November, the encouragement I have received throughout multiple departments has been remarkable, and knowing I have the opportunity to grow within the company is such an amazing feeling.

What advice do you have for the next generation of women in construction?

Inspire the next generation, be a positive role model and be excited about what you do; there are so many facets within the construction industry that are rewarding for women.
