Rockford renovated the historic Century Furniture building by transforming the five-story, 125,000 sq. ft. structure into 87 residential units on the top four floors. The main floor includes leasing offices, a workout facility for individuals living in the building and room for up to 15,000 sq. ft. of retail space. The developer received tax credits from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to restore and bring residential living to the area south of the Heartside district that is primarily zoned industrial. The credits allow the building to be restored to its early 1900s architecture with exposed brick and beams. The building is LEED certified from the U.S. Green Building Council and houses apartments that range from 650 sq. ft. to 1,200 sq. ft.
