Patients and staff at Corewell Health’s Ludington Hospital are now enjoying the benefits of a newly renovated space. Formerly semi-private, the medical-surgical (med/surg) and critical care units have been transformed into 31 private rooms, each with a bathroom and shower, for improved comfort, privacy and care.
To overcome existing ceiling space limitations, the team designed and built a new 14,000 sq. ft. mechanical penthouse on the hospital’s third floor. Construction of the penthouse came with its own set of challenges—namely, coordinating crane operations within close proximity to a regional airport.
Working in an occupied healthcare facility is never easy, but Rockford’s team began planning the construction phasing well in advance. Throughout the preconstruction process, they collaborated closely with Corewell staff to minimize disruptions to patient care, ensuring the hospital could continue to operate smoothly during construction.
