In constructing Grand Rapids’ first wine and jazz bar owned by a Black couple and led by the city’s first Black sommelier, Rockford was intentional in seeking trade contractor support from minority- and women-owned businesses. Community engagement was also key, which ultimately led to working with local and minority trade contractors to complete the 2,030 sq. ft. bar, which sits in the heart of Grand Rapids. The space features a custom floor-to-ceiling storage unit to showcase wine offerings along with a library ladder for access. A custom-built bar houses dispensing units, carbon dioxide tanks and ethernet ports through quartz countertops, where LED lights accent gold-colored features along the bar. A plant fiber 3D wall panel surrounds the indoor fireplace and luxury vinyl tile floors boast a herringbone pattern.
