Around GR: Summer Activities in Grand Rapids

By Brittyn Napper

Summer is finally here! As a Grand Rapids resident, there are endless outdoor activities you can participate in to celebrate Michigan’s warmest season.

For the Entire Family

Visit Fredrik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park for a wonderful day outdoors that includes viewing masterpieces of both art and nature.

In downtown GR, head to the riverwalk and explore the Grand River while you enjoy city views and scenery. The riverwalk is especially pleasing to the eye at night.

Looking to stretch your mind? There are countless museums downtown to visit, including the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Children’s Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum, and Gerald R. Ford Museum. Visiting the nearly 2,000 animals at John Ball Zoo is always a treat. Consider also trying Great Lakes Glow Golf, which puts a funky twist on classic miniature golf.

For the Adults

If you enjoy craft beer, GR is the place to be. A wide variety of beer tours are available throughout the city, allowing you to “try a variety of craft beers without having to worry about hiring a taxi or relying on your friends for a ride.”

Music can also be enjoyed nightly in GR. Here are just a few of the many bars and venues where live bands play regularly: Flanagan’s, Billy’s Lounge, Steel Cat Bar, The Pyramid Scheme and 20 Monroe Live.

Beyond the city, Michigan has miles of beautiful beaches to adore, allowing you to relax in the sand or explore the lake.

Whatever your preference, summer is here – it’s time to get outside and enjoy the weather while it lasts!
