Meet Camryn Kolar, project engineer at Rockford, Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Ferris State University.
Please briefly describe what you do for Rockford. In my position as a project engineer, I deal with a lot of the day-to-day tasks and challenges onsite. I document the work completed each day, communicate with the owner on any updates, and answer any questions the trades have through interpretation of the plans or a formal RFI to the architect.
What is your favorite part of your job/role? The part I enjoy most about my job is the interaction between Rockford and the trades – assisting in finding answers for whatever questions they have. It’s rewarding to see the answers that we come up with for each individual trade put into place and, in the end, all systems working together.
What has been the most rewarding or memorable moment of your career? The most rewarding moment in my career has been how happy the owner was with the project I just finished at WoodSprings Suites.
What does being a woman in the construction industry mean to you? Being a woman in the industry means being able to bring a new perspective to the project to help avoid potential problems.
What advice do you have for others interested in working in the construction industry? It is a very interesting industry where you will face many challenges. My advice is to always continue to learn and grow in this ever-changing market.
